The USGBC Trademark Guidelines assist our community in the use of USGBC proprietary marks and corresponding language that accurately and consistently convey USGBC’s messages and identity. This document highlights common uses and misuses of USGBC marks and language. These guidelines are not all-inclusive. If you have questions regarding logo use and language, please contact the USGBC Marketing

How Do I Get Permission to Use a Logo?
All trademark inquiries should be sent to marketing@usgbc.org. When contacting USGBC, please provide the following details:
- Which trademark(s) is/are being requested?
- What is the intended use of the mark?
- Where exactly will the mark be placed? Brochure? Ad? Construction sign? Web site?
- What text will accompany placement of the mark?
- Is your company a USGBC member of current standing?
- Please include PDF examples, links, or any other materials that will help our staff understand intent of use.
Due to the high volume of logo requests USGBC receives, please allow up to 5 business days for a response to your inquiry.
Applying the Guidelines
Guidelines are not meant to be a straight jacket. Rather, the strictness of their application follows a logical order, based on the type of material being developed. The most rigid standards apply to organization identity. A secondary tier includes marks that represent USGBC programs and services. Business and marketing materials should be designed so that placement of logos and descriptive text are consistent from one piece to another.
Where to begin? The first and most important section in the guidelines to read is the Guidelines for All USGBC Proprietary Marks.
